Is bunion surgery painful?

Lots of patients have heard horror stories about their friends or families having painful surgery. Bunion surgery is somewhat painful, but we have medications that can help substantially. My patients have bunion pain for 3-5 days after, and then they might have pain from swelling, but it is quite tolerable.
