The number of devices that patients try is multiplying each year due to Amazon.

Don’t make the mistake of buying online apparatuses to help correct your bunions they don’t work.

Here is a common DIY (do it yourself) device that touts just by wearing this device your bunions will be straightened. This isn’t correct and it does not work.

What does work?

Wearing appropriate shoes (anatomic shoes) and avoiding progression of the bunion deformity. The idea of reversing your bunion without surgery is only fable.

European Favorite Foods

As I mentioned a few weeks ago we went to Europe for our family vacation. An interesting aspect was the foot in Portugal and Germany. Some of our favorite foods are below.

The food was great but was lacking some spices and salt.

One of my favorite places to visit in Portugal is a cafe called A Brasileira. This is a cafe where some of the most important Portuguese poets wrote their greatest works. Can Amazon solve your bunion problem?

Short Answer - Probably not, but it might be able to help.

Long Answer - You can save some time by seeing a professional since there are so many things to buy online that you might get confused. A good rule of thumb is if you have spent more than 3 months or $300, you are probably better off seeing a podiatrist.

Are my bunions going to get worse?

Many patients come into the office with questions about bunions. This is the most common question I wanted to address today.

The short answer - I don’t know if your bunions will get worse.

The long answer - Look at your parents and family members. If they have big bunions, you may develop them as your foot type usually causes them. Other things like shoes and activities can also contribute to bunions.

You can do a few things to prevent them from getting worse, like wearing appropriate shoes, avoiding jamming in the joint with orthotics, and wearing toe spacers if appropriate.
