Foot Fun - "You Can’t Be Beautiful Everywhere"

Today I want to share one of my best replies I use over and over in the office. If you have been to see me I may have even said this to you!

Many times we deal with unsightly toenails and feel that patients are embarassed of or they think their feet are ugly. In all truth some feet are ugly but for the most part they are not that bad.

Commonly female patients will ask me, “Doctor have you ever seen feet so ugly?”

That is when I use this reply, especially to the older female patients. I tell them, “You can’t be beautiful everywhere!” 

They usually laugh and come up with a quick reply.

My saying to those that ask, "Have you every seen such ugly feet."

The Evening Struggle is Real!

Our nighttime routine with the kids is a daily stress-fest! Getting them to brush their teeth, shower, and get ready for bed can be a battle royale. But recently, I had a funny encounter with my son that had me laughing.

The Conditioner Conundrum 

I was helping my boy shower when I noticed he was only using conditioner. I asked if he had already shampooed his hair, and he told me he doesn't usually use shampoo! I asked why and he said that on the bottle it was written “ for external use only.” I asked him ,”Do you know what external means?” He said he didn’t that’s why he didn’t use the shampoo. I thought to myself, "Oh boy, how long has this been going on?!" 

The Toothbrush Tale

And then there was the time with my daughter... I told her to clean the counter and sink off after brushing her teeth to avoid a build-up of crusted toothpaste. A few days later, my wife asked her why she was cleaning the sink with her toothbrush and she said, “Because dad told me to!” Either she misunderstood me or I might have been joking with her, and she took it seriously. 

The label my son didn't understand and because of that didn't use the shampoo!

Our Favorite Local Shoe Stores

As foot doctors, we spend much of our time looking at shoes and feet. I would probably guess that we give shoe recommendations to 90% of our new patients. Most people are in inappropriate shoes, and they can contribute at least in part to a patient's foot condition.

Poorly fitting or old shoes can contribute to nail changes, fungus, ingrown toenails, heel pain, plantar fasciitis, neuromas, foot calluses, and even ulcers.

There are many shoe stores around. I am going to start discussing some of our favorite running shoe stores near our offices. I don’t mean to exclude any store.
