Why can’t I take Lamisil twice a day for nail fungus?

Recently I got a question from a patient.  She wanted to take Lamisil or Terbinafine twice a day to get rid of her fungal nail infection quicker.  That is not recommended.  The dosage is 250 mg once a day for 90 days.  No more and no less is needed for most people.  Once you take the medication it will take about 6-9 months for a new nail to grow out.  This is enough for most people but on occasion another dose is needed.

However, if the medication is not working you have to evaluate if you really have a fungal infection and not something else on the nail.  This can be determined with a nail sample or nail biopsy.  As well a blood test is needed to see if you have any difficulties with your liver as this medication is processed through your liver.

Just to be clear don't take 2 pills only one a day is needed.  If you miss a day that is okay don't double up the next day.
